Traac Models in Broadband Telecommunication Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Traac models are at the heart of any performance evaluation of telecommunications networks. An accurate estimation of network performance is critical for the success of broadband networks. Such networks need to guarantee an acceptable quality of service (QoS) level to the users. Therefore, traac models need to be accurate and able to capture the statistical characteristics of the actual traac. In this paper we survey and examine traac models that are currently used in the literature. Traditional short range and non-traditional long range dependence traac models are presented. Number of parameters needed, parameter estimation and analytical tractability of traac models are discussed. Traac models are analyzed based on their ability to capture marginaldistribution, auto-correlation structure, and ultimately predict delay and cell loss probabilities of the actual data they model.

متن کاملTraac Characterisation and Eeective Bandwidths for Broadband Network Traces
The trend of current developments in telecommunication networks is towards systems which will allow a number of widely disparate traac streams to share common resources through statistical sharing. How eeciently this can be managed depends critically upon the statistical characteristics of the traac. Our aim in this paper is to investigate the application of a simple and robust graphical descri...
متن کاملPoint Process Approaches for Modeling and Analysis of Self-similar Traac: Part Ii { Applications
In previous work 24], Fractal Point Processes (FPPs) have been proposed as novel tools for understanding, modeling and analyzing diverse types of self-similar traac behavior. We apply the FPP models in the context of network traac modeling and performance analysis. Two qualitatively diierent fractal data sets (Bellcore Ethernet traces) are characterized by FPP models. Comparison of model-driven...

1 Preface This interim report provides an overview of results on source characterization obtained in the COST 257 Action on "Impacts of New Services on the Architecture and Performance of Broadband Networks". First, the results related to fractal traac characterization is presented. Multifractal analysis, the issue of non-stationarity and long-range dependent (LRD) traac models are discussed. T...
متن کاملA Real - Time Tra c Generation and QOS Monitoring
The ability to control and monitor network traac is important for understanding the behavior of, and developing control algorithms for, broadband networks. In this paper, we report on a traac generation and QOS monitoring system we built on a Hewlett-Packard Broadband Series Test System. The traac generator is capable of continuously generating multiplexed ATM cell streams in real-time correspo...
